Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.

Category:Anti-Nazism vs. Category:Anti-nazism

Hi Nebula, Category:Anti-Nazism used to redirect to Category:Anti-nazism. You recently turned that around. Why? Rudolph Buch (talk) 02:13, 27 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Proper nouns and ideologies derived from them (like Nazism) are typically capitalized. 1 2

That´s probably right (I´m not an English-speaker so I can´t be sure) but then why are most of the movements in Category:Anti movements in lower case? --Rudolph Buch (talk) 23:37, 1 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have any idea, but if I had to guess and assume good faith, it’s because it was written in an informal way. News media and academia refer to the term in upper case, because this is the proper grammatical way to write the term. Nebula84912 (talk) 05:41, 2 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Please take these instructions seriously. As the person who moved the category, you are responsible for ensuring that everything still works correctly after the move.

Of course you can move categories, but then please do it right from the start. 1. After renaming, files and possible subcategories must also be moved to the new category. A redirect should always be empty. 2. Is there a wiki dataset? The name needs to be adjusted there. 3. Check in the individual language versions whether there is a direct link to the new category or the redirect. Otherwise the name must be changed there too. Some language versions or even Wikidata use a bot for this, so you may not need to do anything. But you should not rely on any bot to do the work you have started or other users to do yours, but instead do it yourself. I understand the concern about ensuring that everything is correctly updated after a category move. My understanding was that Pi bot handles these changes automatically, which is why I didn’t manually adjust them. However, I’ll double-check to confirm that everything has been updated properly.
